Our Philosophy

Low and slow,
so you can grab and go

We smoke every dish with patience and expertise, so as not to lose any of the flavor, while still keeping the convenience of it being quick and easy.

Our Story

Seventeen years
in the making

We started out seventeen years ago as hair braiders at the Connecticut Renaissance Faires. What began as a fun way for our mother and the two of us to spend time together quickly grew into something much more.

Two years ago we took over the Cèilidh, cooking dinner for 200–400 vendors every Saturday night. After four seasons, we knew we had created something worth building on.

Three Ways to Book

Pricing depends
on how we serve

Drop-Off

We cook it, we deliver it, and you take it from there. The simplest option, and the easiest on the budget. If you'd like serving equipment with it, just say so when we quote and we'll sort it out.

Request a Quote

Served Buffet

We arrive with everything cooked and hot in cambros, set up a steam table, and serve your guests ourselves. Serving equipment is included. All the ease of having us there, without the longer day that on-site smoking needs.

Request a Quote

Smoker On-Site

Everything in Served Buffet, and we bring the smoker out and cook at your event. Low and slow is a four hour cook at minimum, so this one takes more planning and is priced accordingly. Worth it for the smell alone.

Request a Quote

We serve everything buffet style, which keeps things relaxed and lets guests go back for seconds. Tables and seating we leave to you or your venue, so the room comes together just the way you pictured it.

Good to Know

Before you book

Booking

One week’s notice, minimum
We ask for at least a week so we can order the food, get the equipment ready, and give the larger cuts their overnight smoke. If your date is sooner than that, still get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
20 guests and up
Twenty is our minimum for us to bring food out to you. Our largest is around 200.
Email is best
Send us your date, guest count, which of the three services you'd like, and what you have in mind. We'll come back with a quote.

Deposits & Payment

Deposit required
Cancel more than four days before your event and your deposit comes back to you. After that we've already bought the food, so we're not able to refund it.
Every form of payment
Cash, card, or app. Whatever's easiest for you.

Holidays

Pick-up trays
Around the holidays we run a fixed menu at set prices. Order a tray and come pick it up. No 20-guest minimum on those.

Desserts

Sweets by Grounded Bakery

For catering, we partner with Grounded Bakery, run by our sister-in-law, to make specialty cookies and cakes for your event.

Our Story

A Sister’s Barbecue

The two sisters behind the counter of the Oak & Ash booth at a Connecticut renaissance faire
The two of us at the booth, Connecticut renaissance faire.

We started out seventeen years ago as hair braiders at the Connecticut Renaissance Faires. What started as a fun way for our mother and the two of us to spend time together quickly grew into something much more.

Two years ago, we were given the opportunity to take over the Cèilidh, a traditional Scottish and Irish social gathering centered around community, food, and fellowship.

Cèilidh
Pronounced KAY-lee

A traditional Scottish and Irish social gathering centered around community, food, and fellowship.

During each fair season, we were responsible for preparing and serving dinner to 200–400 vendors every Saturday night. More than just feeding people, the Cèilidh became a place where friendships were strengthened and lasting memories were made.

After four successful seasons (two spring fairs and two fall fairs), we realized we had created something special. The incredible response to our food, combined with our experience serving large crowds, inspired us to turn our passion into a business of its own.

Barbecue has always been something we loved to cook together. So we invested in a larger smoker and spent many hours practicing, experimenting, and learning from family and friends. Through patience and plenty of taste-testing, we perfected our recipes.

Our Philosophy

With us starting at the renaissance faire, everything we serve has a little of that flare. Dragon Tails, pork belly on a stick, is one of our signature dishes.

A lot of our food is designed to be easy to enjoy on the go. We wanted either bite-size favorites or full meals that were easier to travel with, without compromising on the flavor.

We smoke every dish with patience and expertise so as not to lose any of the flavor, while still keeping the convenience of it being quick and easy.
